IN AD V7 #414, Rick Kasper asks about removal of a Spider's Neiman
ignition switch. I've used the following technique several times with
100% success (without even loosening the steering column).
Tools needed: A Dremel tool with a "cut off wheel" and a ratcheting
offset screwdriver.
Use the Dremel tool to carefully cut an appropriate slot in the top of
the capscrew. (Remember that the screw is made of relatively soft alloy,
not steel) Then use the offset screwdriver to (slowly and tediously)
loosen the capscrew. Whole process takes less than 5 minutes.
Once the screw is removed and the wires are disconnected, the Nieman
switch withdraws easily from the steering column and can actually be
disassembled, cleaned up, and lubricated.
