Removing Phil's Head

Actually, it's not too hard to remove the upper timing chain,
once the master link is detached.   If you pull up on one end
of the chain, and lower the other end so that the chain drops  
below the teeth on the idler, you can snake it out.  

Of course, before rotating the engine without a timing chain,
make sure both cams are in the TDC position (both #1 lobes 
pointing outward), or better still, just remove the cams 
(they're probably coming out anyhow).

This all presumes that: 1) the upward-pointing bolts from
the chain cover are out, and 2) that the head gasket is
where the head is stuck.  If the gasket is loose, but the
head studs are binding, then it's back to hoists pulling
up on the head.
