Robin, my trunk lid used to do the same thing. Try using a screwdriver to
hold the latch open while you go to the back and lift the lid. If it opens,
the problem is in the springiness of your trunk seal and or the adjustment
of the catch. As far as I can tell there is only the trunk weather stripping
to pop the trunk out of the catch. If yours is squished that may be the
answer. Hope this helps.
