hmmm, you might want to re-calibrate - i've got the remote oil filter and
oil cooler (fram hp1), and my spider, which has a stock sump and dipstick,
takes more than eight quarts to fill to the <max> mark. the oil cooler and
lines hold a little bit.
probably not an issue on a street car, as eight quarts will keep me well
above the <min> mark, but under heavy cornering on a track you don't want
the oil pump sucking air.

p.s. along similar lines, a tip i was given prior to plumbing my air
compressor was to use larger diameter pipe, to increase capacity.
