Air-conditioning

I have noted a trend in postings concerning air-con, that many of you
don't seem to get sufficient cold from your units.

A friend of mine makes his living servicing air-con for all types of
transport. (You should hear him tell you how he MAKES a complete system
for a Catterpillar D10.) Anyway, over the years he has had to do work on
my cars, being Citroens, Alfas and BMW's and has discovered that most
Eurpoean cars imported into Australia have had there thermostats set to
about 5 to 8 degrees. Australian cars have there thermostats set to 1
degree.

He has made many people happy by improving their air-con performance by
simply readjusting the thermostat when they had previously spent
squillions at dealers to no avail.

I would suggest that the actual operational parameters, (ie. what temp
does it turn and what temp does it turn off) of you thermostats be
evaluated first in any air-con work.

I have only ever had to replace, or adjust, thermostats to repair
air-con problems.

By the way, if any of you live in Canberra, Australia let me know for
the name of a great air-con service guy who will come to you.
