105.33 Stradale

In AD7-140 Jan Ben is looking for any detailed information on the 105.33
Stradale and the 105.11 GTZ.

The GTZ has a dedicated book, shared with the SZ, by Marcello Minerbi (perhaps
out of print, not in the current Nada catalog) but so far the Stradale seems
not to have a book of its own.

D'Amico-Tabucchi has a neat six page section on the Stradale which does
include a better print of the photo (from top) of the chassis which is used in
Fusi, (as of the 33/2, which is 10 cm shorter, a normal d'Amico-Tabucchi
discrepancy) and also includes a two-page reproduction of factory drawing of
the chassis layout (plan, elevation, front and rear sections, the later two
split to offer four sets of details), all with body outline and on a gridded
sheet to allow cribbing dimensions. In Fusi, the chassis photo is credited to
the magazine 'Style Auto'.

Some back issues of 'Style Auto' are available from the Libreria
dell'Automobile, but many are sold out and these appear to include the main
one on the 105.33. However, the 33 chassis was used as the base for five show
cars, Bertone's Carabo and a Pininfarina roadster shown at Turin in 1968,
Giugiaro's Iguana and a Pininfarina coupe shown at Turin in 1969, and the
Pininfarina Wedge shown at Brussels in 1971. The Pininfarina coupe is fairly
handsome, and distinguished by probably the highest ratio of glass to surface
of any show car built. The Pininfarina Wedge would probably be the easiest to
replicate in fiberglass over beadboard sheet, as it has hardly anything which
qualifies as a compound curve. The Iguana is something of a refutation of
those who think Giugiaro is incapable of lapses of taste, although it would
look better if painted in one or two uniform colors rather than the simulated
'malfunctioning spraycan' mottled effect. Anyhow, back issues of 'Style Auto'
which are still in print include #24 which has one of the Pininfarina 33s
which might be of interest to a 33 enthusiast.
