To test aluminum for cracks you would need to use liquid penetrent
inspection (LPI). Magnafluxing is only effective on ferrous metals. If you
do decide to do any NDT procedure (non-destructive test) and are paying
good money for it make sure the person doing it is ASTM certified in the
states and CGSB Level II or III in Canada. There are alot of shops that
just wing it, like engine shops that do cranks etc, and they do miss
important stuff. If you could ask the dead guy who's airplane crashed
because of a failed part that had residual liquid penetrant in it he would
say the same thing.
