spider engine swaps

to greg in houston looking for a fast, light car...

Steve An couldn't be more on the money regarding
the engine swap in the spider. its a silly waste of
money. i think i told you before that if you really want
to waste that much dough, the ts conversion is the
best bang for the buck and won't upset the car all
that much.

the down side (as always) its costs a lot of money,
you really have to know what you are doing and a
spider was never intended to take 200+hp stock.
you will have to do many mods to keep the shiny side
pointing up. you need to make it stop and steer
harder than stock, you can't seriously put 200hp
through 185/60 H rated radials, and you'll cook the
stock brakes trying to stop it.

i took my ts project very seriously from the getgo.
i have upgraded all relevant parts with those that
will take the new power. i have solicited and paid
for excellent advice to have a really fast car and
living long enough to brag about it.

these same principles go for any engine swap.
you start messing with weight distribution and
your engineering (yes - it is engineering) gets more
complex.

my best advice, buy some books before you buy
any parts. start with some basic chassis setup
books, work into some cylinder head engineering,
and end with the karatalamkis book on how to do
it to an alfa. racing is only fun if you live.
