Error 8U in 164 AC control unit + Dead fan in AC

My 91 164L recently had the same problem- there was a "sizzle" when I turned
the AC on one day. Turns out the fan motor shorted out. It was an expensive
fix- I didn't have the time or patience to tear the dash apart again as per
the stepper motor.
