administrivia: just pushing things along

i've just shortened the size of the alfa digest by 5,000 characters.
i'm really doing it to make sure that the previous message gets out in a
timely manner, but the aol users should win because it will probably get
them back to where digests are no longer attachments. i'll leave it this
way as a (possibly short lived) present to the aol contingent.
