2nd gear synchro

Firstly, thanks to all who enlightened me about the ARA/AROC dichotomy.

Now, here's another querry:
- - when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, my '92 Spider Veloce has recently
begun to grind gears as I enter 2nd.  (The clutch is fully depressed.)  I
have been noticing  that the grinding doesn't happen when the RPMs are
lower.  I'm praying that the 2nd gear synchro isn't going already (only
11,000 miles on the car), and that the grinding is only due to my
overzealous downshifting of late.

any insighful wisdom is greatly appreciated,
