Absolutely correct. But I never said Miata's were shit. I was stereotyping
the owners as clueless cute-car drivers. My wife and I are constantly
amazed at the number of Miatas we see in PERFECT top-down weather which
have the top up. I'd say 3 out of 4. The sampling of alfa spiders running
around is admittedly not as statistically valid but I'd say 2 out of 3 alfa
owners recognize perfect topless weather AND know how to operate the damn
top (we joke that Mazda forgot to print instructions in the owners manual
for this operation). These numbers may be skewed as a result of Miata
owners becoming addicted to their air-conditioners...which has always
seemed to be an odd thing to put in any convertible.
I do know a Miata owner who rarely puts the top up. She is so excited to
finally have a real sports car. Recently we swapped cars to see how
different our cars were. Her 97 model won on handling confidence by a
country mile. The Duetto won on looks (inside and out), performance (or at
least perceived performance [result of the next item]) and sweet engine
noise (the Miata still sounds like an econobox).
When Miatas first appeared I was quite interested in them. They have all
the right stuff in all the right places but alas they still do not have a
soul. Perhaps a trip to see the Wizard of Oz would rectify that.

I've got a dollar that says not without a torch becoming involved. ;-)
