I would suggest that the time-factor is backwards -- that the original
fitment on GTV6 and Milano was a better quality pump than is currently
available, in the US, anyway.  I note that old Centerline catalogs showed
<two> pumps -- a SPICA, somewhat more expensive, and a less expensive
version.  I think only the cheaper version is coming-in now.  In the older
pumps, the bearing held (unless really stressed) until after the seal
failed -- now, the bearing begins to wobble in a few K.  (And I would
suggest that the relative longer life of the 164 pump is due to much
lighter loading possible, driven by the cog-belt.)
