85' Spider VVT Problem

To all enlightened Spider experts, I have a very obvious oil leakage/spray
problem with my 85' Spider which resides in Plano, Texas.

The problem is simple.  From around the Variable Valve Timing inspection
hole, oil sprays out on to the hood and engine.  After replacing the
defective solenoid, the problem has become worse.  It appears that some seal
has failed. I have a lot of oil on the underside of the hood in a very cool
looking spray pattern.

What is involved with fixing this problem?  What seal, gasket, etc. has
failed?
