[alfa] Re: near new water pump leaking

Anthony,
That hole is there for the water to run out of when the seal goes bad. It
is possible for the seal to leak and the bearings to be good-----for a while.
Then the water takes the bearings out, too.

Subject: [alfa] near new water pump leaking

I have a 12 month old water pump on a 105 (1971 1750 gtv) that is
leaking. The bearing is fine and the pump is nearly new. There appears
to be a small machined whole at the bottom of the pump just rear of the
pulley where the coolant is leaking out. I haven't noticed this hole on
older water pumps. Should it have a grub screw in it? What is it there
for?
Thanks in advance,
anthony toy
