[alfa] Re: Spider oil pressure sender

Hi Colin:

I've seen several different types of oil pressure senders over the years, although never one by the OEM supplier. So, it may be that the one you've got is indeed what's currently available for your Spider. I've replaced the senders on both of my Spiders a few times in the last several years, as sometimes they don't live very long, but never had an interference problem with the starter solenoid. But, on both of my cars I've got those pint-sized gear-reduction starters, rather than the larger version that was original on your '78. Whatever the case, if you think there will be clearance between the sender and starter solenoid when the sender is fully screwed in, why not semi-remove the starter? It's a fairly simple task on a Spica (or carb'd) Spider, and can be done from above. You might also take this opportunity to clean all the electrical connections in the area of the starter and injection pump, and lube all the throttle linkage pivots.

Hi all,

I just tried to install the new oil gauge sender I
ordered. It appears to be too long--the body of the
unit is about 3/8 of an inch longer than the orignal
unit. You can't thread it in all the way because it
hits the starter solenoid. IPA is closed and I'm
stuck. They said this was the right part number. The
box reads "7.0605 oil pressure sender" and there is an
IAP number 34265000. I suppose the wrong part could be
in the box. Can anyone tell me if the part should just
go in, or do I have to remove the starter to put in
the longer replacement part? Should the part be the
same size? The threads ARE correct.

This is a 1978 Spider

THANKS

Colin
