[alfa] Re: alfa-digest V10 #346

Ed,
My wife's '88 Milano Gold auto did the same thing -- creeping forward in
park -- right before the transmission shift cable failed. Apparently, the cable
is stretching so while it looks like it is in park the linkage hasn't moved
the full range and the tranny is actually between positions. Once I replaced
the cable the problem went away... Be warned, most parts places will send you
an auto tranny cable for an Alfetta, supposedly it is the same P/N... It
isn't, but it can be made to work if the proper cable isn't available.
If your tranny is dead I have the one out of my wife's car. Nothing wrong,
fluid and filter changed every 7500 miles, Mobil 1 synthetic ATF for the 50K
miles we owned, 115K total, came out of a two owner car -- me and the PO -
documents show the car maintained by Krause & England and FAF. Reason we bought
the car in the first place was the way the auto tranny worked... $125.00
plus shipping or you make pickup arrangements at my house. I will crate for
free.
Oh, wife is reading over my shoulder and reminded me that the fluid level
switch never gave consistent readings on the dash panel. True statement but
every time I took the switch off it worked fine on the bench, eventually I
decided that nothing else worked consistently on the dash info panel so why should
this be any different.
Oh #2, if you ask real pretty, I will go out in the garage and get you the
number of the $11.00 Purolator tranny filter that every auto parts store in the
US has on the shelf... I did about 14 months at a Pep Boys... Lots of Alfa
things are from other cars.
