[alfa] Re: Rear springs
Robert,
You can change the rear springs with no special tools at all.
1. Jack the car and support it on jack stands under the frame just in
front of the trailing arm attachment point.
2. Lower the differential and let it hang on the limit straps
3. Place the jack under the rear of one trailing arm.
4. Disconnect the bottom of the shock from the trailing arm.
5. Disconnect the sway bar from the trailing arm.
6. Remove the rear trailing arm to differential bolt.
7. Lower the jack and the spring will fall out.
8. Reverse the procedure to install the spring.
9. That's one, now do the other side the same way ;-)
10. Since you are this far, now would be a good time to replace the
bushing on top of the differential where it connects to the trunion. Take the
nut off and push the differential sideways to get it off. You will have to
leave both trailing arms loose and you may have to disconnect the driveshaft
and remove the rear wheels to obtain enough sideways movement.

Subject: [alfa] Rear springs
I am getting ready to replace the rear springs and shocks on my 83 Spider.
The manual calls for a special tool to remove the springs. Is there a step
by step procedure to replace these without the special tool? Any other
things I should check for while under the rear end?
