[alfa] Re: 77 GTV Drive Shaft problem

Thanks for the responses
I think I need to add a little more history. When I purchased the car about 2 months ago, it had little or no vibration, but then a small 200Km/h burst on the autobahn seems to have put an end to that and that has been the only "abnormal" driving that I have done. Before this, it was reasonably smooth to 6200rpm, but now it is really rough at 1200 and 3000rpm, it just suddenly occurred at around the same time that the last stage of the exhaust detached, and I had just completed the 10 minutes at 200Km/h. The guibos and center bearing seem to be in good condition.

Is it possible for the weights to come off the shaft?

Is it more likely that the shafts have moved off center?

I am thinking of loosening the pinch bolts and letting the engine idle briefly as per Michael Harris' instructions on GTV6.org. Anyway thanks for the suggestions, and anything else that you can add will be appreciated.

Jason,

When you have a 2 peice drive shaft like that of an Alfetta, you can find 3
different connections for bolting that together.
I would look for some mating marks on the two ends in the middle to see if you
have the drive shaft misaligned. You could be off 1/3 and it would cause the
problem you are speaking about.
I always used a tool to make arrow marks when I removed the drive shaft so
that I was sure to get it realigned back the way it came out.
I am guessing that the center support is in good condition? If that isn't,
then it will also allow for some movement.
