[alfa] Re: 1977 GTV 2000 transaxle vibration mystery

I have recently noticed that I have a strong vibration that starts at
3000 revs and dies down at about 4100 revs. I have had the transaxle
rubber and bearings checked and they all seem in
great condition.

The mechanic that looked for the cause seems to think
that some balance weights are missing from the shaft, he has tried to
guesstimate by placing a hose clamp around the axle to try and counter
this vibration, it has not helped.

Jason.

I seriously doubt that you have missing balance weights as they are
welded in place on assembly by the shaft manufacturer/vendor. IMHO
that I have yet to see a shaft go out of balance except when bent due to
a failed guibo, worn pilots and/or bushings or sloppy reassembly. In
your case, I would suspect the latter. Ask your mechanic to disassemble
and inspect the guibo bushings for wear and correct positioning.
