[alfa] Paint
Jon durham asks: "Where can I find the original Alfa paint 119? I have
had several occasions when the paint was not properly mixed."
*********
Jon, in the future, I suggest one of several things - either ask to see
the paint chip that should match their formula beforehand - and if
you're comfortable with the chip, then sort of put the paint shop's feet
to the fire and let them know their mix is not what is shown.
The next one might cost you an additional $50 or so depending on whether
you want the formula to be put on their computer, should your require
more paint in the future. This time bring in a part from your car which
you feel represents the "exact" color you are looking for. True, very
relative, but unless the paint shops were miles off on their matching, I
have to assume they came up with what they felt was the "correct" color
/ tint / shade / density.
If you hand the store a painted part you are convinced is the correct
color and they don't match it correctly, you now have a fall back. Have
them put a dab of their mix on your part.
119 if I'm correct is Canary Yellow. Not saying the paint store will
start with these colors but to achieve this color it is basically a
combination of yellow with a bit of blue. Yellow is a very elusive
color. Should they error just a smudge on the blue side, you'll end up
with a yellow / green. Look at the color under fluorescent lights, and
it might well look greenish. Take it outside in what I'll call "bright
shade" on a sunlight day (at noon) and this is the time to make the
decision. If it looks fine, they've done their job.
I happen to prefer reds on the yellow side which is how I repainted my
Alfetta GT. Under certain street lights in So. Cal. it looks like a
square edged pumpkin. Though in my opinion it looks killer in sunlight /
daytime.
