Of course it's right.  How could they be wrong?  I'm sure they've never
sold a defective filter, therefore every problem must lie elsewhere.  It
certainly helps with the liability, from their perspective.

- you are so correct! There was an issue with Fram filters fitted to
Alfasud engines here in New Zealand some years back when the crank
journals were starved of oil and one engine after another went west.
Fram admitted liability finally when it was discovered that the
anti-drain valve was not waorking properly, something to do with
dimensions, so that it was actually blocking off oil flow to the engine.
Cost of fixing was borne by Fram.

So your advice should be heeded - check before suspecting the oil pump.
