[alfa] noisy tacho cable

What am I doing wrong with my new tacho cable? New engine and a new cable, the
old one worked fine. This one sounds like one of those abrasive tumbling
machines. 

Are the cables symmetrical or is there an engine end and a gauge end? Why would
the sound get worse as the engine warms up? Should I be trying to lubricate the
cable?
