RE: [alfa] Alfa156 Computer reset?

This is pure speculation since I am both on the other side of the pond and
have never seen a 156 let alone worked on one.

But ... many new(er) cars have adaptive systems that adjust to the
conditions in which the cars are used and how they are driven. It could very
well be that what is being done is a reset or clearing of these values.

This can (sometimes) be accomplished by disconnecting the battery for about
a half an hour to an hour, sometimes connecting the two battery terminals
together after the battery is disconnected helps. (This works on certain
older BMW models)

Other times this requires the use of a proprietary scan tool of sorts.

Or, OTH I could be completely wrong about all this as this is pure
speculation on my part ...

Subject: [alfa] Alfa156 Computer reset?

   Fellow Alfisti,

Here is one for perhaps those outside North America.
A colleague, who also has a year 2000, 2 litre, ALFA156 has been having
   a
recurring problem with rough running. About every 8000 - 10000kms it
happens, and they take the car to the dealer who apparently performs
some sort of a computer reset. I have never heard of this, and it
   doesn't happen to my car.

Does anyone want to speculate as to what they would be doing?
Apart from that, the car runs fine, as does mine.
Would they be possibly reseating connectors? Are any known for being
   a problem?

   Cheers,
   david
