As I am replacing the side window seals and door seals on my 69 GTV, I have taken the door hinges to be refurbished. The door hinges were so bad that I could move the rear of the door 3-4 inches vertically when the door was open. New hinges are necessary to make the door fit correctly and to avoid ruining the lock plates. Refurbishing involves making bushings to fit into the middle hinge position. There are 2 bushing per hinge. The machine shop (a well-known Ferrari restorer here in the Chicago area-his shop is a wonderland of Italian cars) has dismantled the hinges, will create new bushings, press them into position and then re-assemble the hinges. Since this is a common problem with a GTV, I have asked the machine shop to give me a price for making up extra sets. With the thought in mind that other owners might be interested in a similar repair, I am going to decide by next Friday, April 8 if I should ask them to make up the extra sets. If you are interested, the price would be 140 for 8 bushings. That is enough to do both doors.
I found a locksmith to re-key my existing door locks, so I have a new set of door handles/locks I purchased from Centerline. If you are looking for such a thing, give me a call at (847) 550-8422.
There are many little trim screws that hold the chrome pieces around the door and side window openings. There are also small trim screws that secure the channels holding the door gasket. Does anyone have a good source for these? My guess is that these are special metric-sized and not available from the local hardware store.
