The track opened in 1949 as a 1/5 mile dirt oval (America\'s Speedways gives May 30th, 1952 as the opening date.) It operated as a dirt track until sometime in 1954. The modern 1/4 mile paved oval opened on June 17th, 1955. A 1/4 mile paved figure 8 track opened around 1970. The track has also operated as Vimco-Riverhead Speedway.
