Chemung Speedrome was built by the parents of Geoff and Brett Bodine, opening on June 15th, 1951 as a dirt oval. Originally 1/4 mile, it was expanded to 1/3 of a mile. It was paved in August of 1969, operating until 1979. The current owner purchased the facility in 1985. It appears to have run briefly in 1988, but otherwise sat idle for some time. A major reconstruction started in 1997 and the track reopened on October 21st, 2000.
