The facility shut down in 2000 after the owners decided that the associated fair was no longer viable. An effort was made to use the facility for karting, but it doesn\'t seem to have gone very far. Demolition finally started in late 2005/early 2006.

Motorcycle racing started on the Flemington Fairgrounds in 1910. Auto racing started on August 13th, 1915, on a 1/2 mile dirt oval. Racing ended for WWII on September 1st, 1941, and resumed on June 16th, 1946, continuing through 1966. The track expanded to a 5/8 mile squarish oval on May 6th, 1967. A 0.75 mile road course operated in 1996-1997. Operations largely ceased in September of 2000, although a few vintage events were held in 2001 and 2002. Some kart events may have been held using the short road course after 2000.
