Oglethorpe Speedway Park opened in 1951, and operated into the mid-60s, including a number of events on the early NASCAR Grand National schedule (the original Grand National series is the direct ancestor of the Winston Cup/Nextel Cup of today.) The facility shut down in the mid-60s, but reopened in 1977.
