Bruce Sunseri - 3rd
"My motor went soft on me. Mike had a power advantage over me. Knowing I was
down on power from these two,
I knew that I would have to use traffic. I really had to work hard to keep my
position."
Michael Reupert - 2nd
"I got bumped in traffic and then picked-up a push. Thank goodness for
Goodyears.
In the turns, it was a real dogfight. Kaiser had a definite horsepower
advantage. These guys did a great job getting
by me in a real tight spot. These guys "dirt track" a lot - it must be a
west-coast style of driving."
David Kaiser - 1st
"Everything worked right. I planned to go out on hard tires and took all the
downforce out to give me the
straightaway speed. I knew I would be a little slow in the corners but I knew I
could make-up for it on the straights.
I had to drive every lap and push the engine to the limit."

The sunset was glorious, but some of the color was due to the heavy clouds off to the left (south?) Weather reports threaten rain.
There are plenty of workers here, over 600, including a huge number of stewards. There is a steward on every corner, in addition to the stack in race control, impound, and protest central. I'm sure you've heard elsewhere, but there are 705 entries this week.
SATURDAY MORNING:
Yes, it's raining. The first race, SSB, was best equipped to deal with it, with Jody Lift winning in a VW. I'm off-duty as flag chief this weekend, but I wish someone told the drivers. I spectated at Turn 8 for part of the session; it didn't take two laps before a Peugot whacked the wall in front of me and tore up the right front suspension and had to park.
The SSB race ended on the clock instead of laps due to the weather and the seven pages of incidents the weather brought on. GP is running right now, and will probably also be shortened to meet the 40 minute time limit.
Let's get this uploaded now, with more throughout the day and halfway through tomorrow. (I have to leave the track at noon tomorrow to fly back to Shreveport.... it's a work thing.)

John Dillon's notes from Saturday Afternoon
Weather cleared up some in the afternoon, but it's cold and windy. Overheard in the pits: I'm looking forward to a cold beer with a hot coffee chaser.
I've learned that Peter Tinelli, who was disqualified last year for an illegal SSGT car, encountered the same stewards and same fate this year. As a result, his license was pulled (so he couldn't race in SSC (?) and he had a 9 month suspension and is not allowed to run the Runoffs next year.
Steve Kelso was DSQ'd for a tech violation per the chief steward, and he chose not to appeal. I've not heard anything more specific.
I met Jeff Werth the other day; a pleasant fellow, who's here to report on the tire situation.
"SportsCar was Wrong" shirts are coming into short supply. The magazine hasn't picked many winners yet. Tom VanCamp was picked, and won, SR, but there's a protest in process, probably due to last lap rubbing between turns 9 and 11.
This message is gossip and conjecture, and not to be construed as being anything of value. Enjoy.
I'll be uploading more stuff up till noon tomorrow, but then must bail. Hang in there, y'all, the mountain of electrons coming your way will dwindle shortly!
John Dillon
John Dillon's late Saturday notes...
Last note for the night from rumor central. Jody Lift may have been DSQ'd for illegal car. Rats! I'm a VW owner and was rooting for him. This is unofficial, of course.....
Also, rumor was that Tonelli's tech problems related to ported and polished heads. Okay for AS, but not SSGT, I've been told.
Big, big thanks, while I'm thinking about it, to Ann McHugh here in the press room and Bill Skibbe in T&S. Greg Rubenstein keeps feeding me more juicy disks to pass along. Thanks, Greg!
I'm outta here.... Hope I didn't forget anything!

Here are my last notes from the Valvoline Runoffs. This morning has been a bright, clear, sunny days, though clouds hover in the distance. It has been quite cold and windy, however, feeling distinctly like winter to this SoPac resident.
The GT5 race finished under yellow (the second yellow of the race), with Jim Rauck winning ahead of Joe Huffaker. Bill Gilcrease finished 4th. The pace car was NOT leading the field, which may have caused the delay in going green.
SoPac scoreboard based on Final results unless otherwise noted: Steve Imhoff, 8th in FA. SSA: Tom Brecht 5th, Bob Endicott 6th, Tim Brecht, 9th, Larry Cress, 15th. F440: Galen Puccini, 5th, Eric Christenson, 19th, John Puccini, 20th. FV: Mark Edwards, 11th, Peter Harris, 18th, Skip Streets, 37th, Brian McCarthy, DNF. CSR: Charlie Kuhlman. GP: Terry Rohr, 7th, John Snow, 9th, Garry Wittman, 17th. SSB (provisional): Richard Crites, 17th, Bill Harrison, 34th, but rumors of several cars getting bounced out of tech including the winner Jody Lift. HP: Rob Walker 4th after running as high as second; Edward Link, 17th. AS: Steve Kelso, disqualified, Steve Tollefson, 4th after starting 15th, Richard Ciochon 21st, Jeff Cawthorne, DNS. Provisional SSC, with same old rumors of bouncing cars: Paul Bonaccorsi, 11th, Bill Hagerty, 18th, Eric Morehouse, 22nd, Art Ragazzi, 32nd. Hagerty and Morehouse both said they didn't fight too hard for the corners since it wasn't worth wadding up the car just to gain 13th spot.
Terry Rohr had a phenomenal drive in GP, working up from last to 7th, and getting as high as 5th. He received a lot of air time from the announcers. Terry credits the wet track conditions for his success and thought he could have taken fourth if it had stayed rainy just a little longer.
GT1s are rolling out to the track and I've gotta run. Greg Rubinstein will provide uploads of results for the rest of the day. Enjoy!

Subject: Random news from Mid-Ohio
Walt Taylor called (he's crewing around at the Run-Offs (tm)) with the following observations: These particularly relate to SOWDIV, apologies to everyone else who's not interested.
Formula Fords seem to be having problems because of the unseasonably warm weather. Most FFs brought soft tires and they're tearing the tires up at a fearsome rate. The SOWDIV entries are at least all still running. CT Hancock (1st in 1992 Runoffs) is 11th on the provisional grid at the moment.
Tom Dalrymple (winner of this year's June Sprints(tm) and Sportscar Cover Boy) is 12th. Ted Toth and Nigel Allison are further back.
There's apparently a controversy over the Citation FFs and protests have been filed. The Citations may be DQ'd. No details available.
Walt used to own the Elva that Mark Brannon from AZ now drives, and he said Mark is currently gridded 3rd in E-Prod. Mark's dad (who also drives an Elva Courier) is gridded 7th. Hardy Prentice and his venerable TR3 is between them somewhere.
Dennis O'Conner (SOWDIV) is presently gridded 3rd on the provisional GT-1 grid.
SOWDIV H-Prod update: Mike Feeble (not sure of spelling) is gridded 2nd in H-Prod. Rick Crawford is 16th. Doug Doitch (sp?) is currently 27th.
The FV group from SOWDIV is apparently not having very good luck, and are currently toward the back of the pack.
Hey, I said the news was random . . .
